Abstract
Permanent magnet stepper motors are used in positioning applications due to their durability, high efficiency, and power density, as well as their high torque to inertia ratio and absence of rotor winding. Microstepping is widely used to increase the position resolution and largely eliminate the jerky character of low speed operations and noises at intermediate speeds. Although microstepping has been widely used for PM stepper motors in industry, its principle and stability have not yet been proven. The principle and stability of microstepping are shown using the Lyapunov method. Nonlinear control methods for position tracking and current tracking are introduced in this seminar.
Short Bio
Wonhee Kim received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical computer engineering, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea, in 2003, 2005, and 2012, respectively. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the School of Energy Systems Engineering, Chung-Ang University, Seoul. From 2005 to 2007, he was at Samsung Electronics Company, Suwon, South Korea. In 2012, he was at the Power and Industrial Systems Research and Development Center, Hyosung Corporation, Seoul. In 2013, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Nano Science and Technology, Hanyang University, and a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, CA, USA. From 2014 to 2016, he was in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Dong-A University, Busan, South Korea. His current research interests include nonlinear control and nonlinear observers, as well as their industrial applications.
