UNIST ECE student’s paper accepted at IEEE ICNP 2017
UNIST CSE Wooseung Nam, Professor Kyunghan Lee, and OSU ECE Joohyun Lee’s paper “SyncCoding: A Compression Technique Exploiting References for Data Synchronization Services” was accepted for presentation at IEEE ICNP 2017.
This research, while recent cloud storage services such as Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive have attracted a huge number of subscribers, focused on the inefficiency of synchronized data transmitted between devices and servers in this services. The research team in this research proposed SyncCoding that is a novel network data encoding technique which dynamically eliminates redundancy block of inter-files by previously synchronized or shared (i.e., transmitted) data. Through various experiment of practical use cases, this compression technique was confirmed that it largely outperforms available advanced compression technique such as Brotli used by Google Chrome browser and LZMA.
IEEE ICNP (International Conference on Network Protocols, acceptance rate: 18.66%) is one of the premier conferences in the computer networking field, and will be held in Toronto (Canada) on October 10-13th.
